Roulette is probably the most popular casino game in the field of table games. Roulette had a great attraction for me even in my childhood and I received a children’s roulette game for my birthday, which accompanied me until I was 12 years old. The player bets a small amount between 0.50 Euro and 1 Euro on “red” or “black”. Also conceivable is a corresponding bet of the amount on “even” or “odd”. What is important in this context is that an approximately 50 percent probability of winning should be realized. In case of a win, the player does not have to do anything else and can place the same bet again. In the event of a loss, the doubling strategy comes into play:

For simplicity’s sake, let’s assume that the player made a bet of 1 Euro on his first bet in which he suffered a loss. According to the strategy, it is now important to place another bet on the same item. However, the bet must be double the previous bet. In our example, it is therefore an amount of 2 euros.

In our example scenario, we now assume that the player is wrong again with his second bet and loses the stake of 2 Euros. The next step in the strategy is to double the bet again. This means 2 x 2 Euro, i.e. 4 Euro on the same item. Up to this point the player has bet or lost a total amount of 7 Euro (1 Euro from the first bet, 2 Euro from the second bet and 4 Euro from the third bet). If the player now wins with his prophecy, he receives a win of 8 Euro (4 x 2 Euro). The original bet of 7 Euro against a win of 8 Euro still makes a plus of exactly 1 Euro.

The strategy I tried is based on the assumption that the player will always take a 50% chance of winning. The repeated doubling of the bets leads to the fact that the player usually lands a hit after a maximum of 4 to 5 doubles and in this way ends up with an effective win. A loss is said to be highly unlikely – this is how the strategy is advertised.

My experience with the strategy – Criticism and potential

The strategy presented is indeed worth a try under favourable conditions. I too could hardly believe it when I initially won euro for euro without taking any apparent risk. The strategy gave the impression that it was a real money machine. In my opinion, one of the main dangers of this strategy is that in the long term you overestimate yourself. In order to be able to generate winnings faster, players often start with higher stakes and after a 3 to 5 times doubling have to bet 4 digit amounts to secure the final win. So it can happen that you bet an amount of more than 2000 Euro only to get a profit of effectively 5 Euro. The risk in this case is high and cannot be dismissed.

A further fallacy is the apparent 50% chance of winning, which is suggested to the users of this strategy. If one looks at the statistics, it is de facto but not a 50 percent chance of winning. What the applicants of this strategy conceal: The neutral, green zero influences the statistics. In other words: The casino always has a house advantage – even if this seems marginal at first sight.

Is the strategy to recommend?

From my own experience, I would assess the strategy as follows:

Whoever uses this strategy – like me – can of course quickly win a lot of money. But the point will come where every player is 5, 6, 7 or 8 times wrong and has to double the bet several times. It is therefore highly recommended that you deposit a sufficient amount of money to double your bets enough often. This is possible in only a few forms of roulette games. This is opposed by the table limits deliberately set by the operators of the casinos, which are intended to prevent an “infinite” doubling.
