I have been playing the lottery for several years, partly successfully, partly without success. The great hit, the so-called jackpot, has been missing so far and I haven’t had the chance to win six real ones either.

Despite everything, as the saying goes: “Hope dies last”!
The biggest success so far were five right players, but at this point the odds were above average. There were simply too many players ticking the five right ones.
But nevertheless, one should not be dissatisfied and not forget the tension on the days of the draw (Wednesday + Saturday).

Experience with a betting community

About ten years ago I played with my work colleagues, we formed one of the so-called betting communities. During the several months when we gave our tips, we tried different lottery variants. Besides the standard ticket we also played full system and subsystem lotto.
Again and again we tried our luck with Keno-Lotto. Despite the numerous tips and the various lotto systems, the big win failed to materialize.
Slowly but surely a certain resignation spread within the betting community.
A last attempt should grab the luck by the horns, we tried it with the system 22 out of 49. At that time the stake was 99 €.
One of the Tipper had the idea, it would have to mark a completely uninvolved one the numbers. Also, he should never have played the lottery in his life. He was convinced that this would have to work. After a short consideration we agreed to this project. Said, done!
The result: Of the 26 numbers we ticked, we had two, believe it or not, correct numbers.
After this “encouraging” experience, the betting community chapter was over.

New experiment

After the betting community had dissolved, most of them tried their luck alone again. I myself considered for a long time which system I should prefer. I came to the conclusion that the greatest chances of winning the subsystem lottery were there.
After I had played for some time, one or the other win came up, but they were all not worth mentioning.

Probability calculation

Earlier in business school, we were also taught something in mathematics about probability theory. Why not apply what you have learned to the lottery.
I found out about this on the Internet and inquired about the most drawn numbers of the last ten years. After a few moments the result was delivered to me on the basis of a so-called diagram.
On the basis of these facts I filled out the lottery tickets subsystem, preferably I played the variant nine out of twelve. That was the cheapest way to play the subsystem.
This was followed by several small prizes alternating with rivets. From time to time when I had superfluous money available, I also played the system where I had to tick twelve numbers. What I myself thought was more possible became true. During the drawing I had marked five numbers correctly, I could hardly believe it.
On the next day unfortunately the disillusionment comes, instead of the profit for five correct ones home, the ratio of five times three and once four correct ones was paid to me. With all my joy I had forgotten that this was quite possible with Lotto subsystem.
Therefore, this dream of a big win had also come to nothing. What came was the disillusionment and insight that Lotto is simply a game of chance.

Fazit: After this experience I was aware that you cannot force luck. Since then I only play now and then, am happy about small prizes and consider Lotto as the chance to become a millionaire.
The probability that this could become reality is one in several millions.
Despite everything, you can only win if you play.

PS: Once I typed Lotto normally five numbers correctly, but got because of the many winners not even 2000 euros paid.
